WHAT TIME IS IT?

Hurrah, my favourite show features my favourite thing!

"Pagelings are the secret guardians of the books in the Library. They are disguised as the first blank sheet in old books. They only reveal themselves to people that they trust. Their normal forms are paper origamis shaped like humanoids, animals, or a shape. They can turn into different paper origamis. When in the form of a paper airplane, they can fly."

Adventure Time never disappoints. Jokesss.

CUBE + OCTAHEDRON

Here's a bright pink compound of a cube and an octahedron. This lovely modular ball was thought up by someone I greatly admire, Francesco Mancini, who's Flickr I've been following for ages just waiting for him to post some diagrams of his designs. I hope that I can learn through these little projects you see on this blog of others' designs so that one day I am able to come up with my own designs too. I've tried and it's hard, more practice needed... Some day...!

What I really liked about this model (despite my sloppy folding) is that from every angle there's a different pattern happening. Because of the relationship between the low-tipped-triangle-based pyramids and the high-tipped-square-based pyramids, we get very interesting and beautiful views, which I tried to diagram below.

PENTAGONS

David Brill's 30-degree Fuse Ball. Hmm, this one was a bit frustrating. I couldn't put the last piece in because of the delightful yet finicky pentagon dimples so it's a bit saggy and deformed.

Okay, other than that I don't have much else to say about this, so this post may get boring.

NOT. Here's a fun fact (that you probably already know, but since I didn't I will share it): You know a pentagon is a five-sided polygon, hexagon is six-sided, heptagon is seven-sided, octagon is eight... I never know what the nine-sided one is called. So did some wiki-ing. It's a nonagon (which my spell-check is telling me isn't a real word...). Well I find that exciting. Maybe you learned something new today and you can find a way to sprinkle that one into your everyday conversation! Hurray! Okay, clearly I'm just bored today...

I, FOR ONE, WELCOME OUR NEW ORIGAMI-ROBOT OVERLORDS

Yes. It's true. We are one step closer to being overtaken. Check out the power of this robo-gami... (I love when friends send me links cause "the word origami always makes them think of me" :D)

Now, shut your gaping mouth and calm your astonished brain. Then read this and be astonished once more. If you're too lazy, the gem in the article is this: With a puff of air only twice that of a human exhalation, a creased and collapsed piece of silicone-soaked paper can lift a 2 pound weight. Oh, the applications!

A RANDOM THING

Hmm, hi again. Here's a random thing I made. Out of boredom. Basically we did a big office clean-up the other week and came across a bunch of paper sample booklets. Naturally, I went all crazy over them cause I'm all into colour and paper and coloured paper and shit. But like so many other little random trinkets I pick up here and there, they sat in my room for a fair amount of time before I (remembered I had them and) actually did something "useful" with them.

So, umm, yes, here's a random thing: a "colour swatch tapestry" if you will. Perhaps you won't. Well I needed a place to pin my many pictures of the faces I miss most, and it's working pretty well. And it adds colour to my mornings as it's the first thing I see when I wake up. Okay that's enough of that, I'll be getting a life soon. Soon!

Fun fact: my favourite one is fourth row down, fourth from the left. Oh-la-la.

URCHIN

Let's start this post with some interesting trivia, just so that whoever does visit this blog feels like they are getting something out of dropping by:

Did you know, sea urchins are the longest living creatures on the planet, with some living for over 200 years! They live for 200 years, yet they have no brain.

Fascinating isn't it. Anyways, without further ado here's the latest addition to the origami ball family: a Sea Urchin Star by Martin Sejer Andersen. Thoughts on this one: meh... I didn't find it too exciting really. I think it's a colour thing. This would look better as just one solid colour so that the white tips had a stronger contrast.  Oh well, I'm all about aquas and greys, so I guess it'll do.

This lack of enthusiasm here isn't boding well. I'm going to go scour the interwebs for some new folds and get excited again. OR, maybe someone wants to give me some money to go buy some books. Yes. Someone fund my nerdinesss, prease!

I MISS YOU!

I miss you, folding! I miss letting myself get all overly into some geeky crease pattern that most normal people might find... Well, geeky. I've been busy though. And as crap as that is as an excuse, I'm trying to find time to get back into it so be patient and I just may come up with a masterpiece (but probably not). Busy with what you ask? I've been practicing my telekinesis. I learned how to make my little origamis float, hurray. Just kidding. I'm going to go now. Soon, my friend(s?), soon...
